INFORMATION

Judging and Awards

Judging will take place Friday evening with results presented Saturday.

                First prize winners or their designees must be present at 1:00 PM on Sunday for the awards ceremony. All entries are to remain in place until 4:00 PM Sunday.

Sales Policy

Sale of products may be conducted under the auspices of the 23rd  Annual Desert Woodcarving Show and Sale. See their web site www.desertwoodcarvingshow.com  for complete details.

General Admission

A $5.00 donation is asked of all show visitors over 14 years of age.  This is waived for volunteers registered to work at the show, individuals who have submitted an entry, vendors and other exhibitors.

Rules

1.       Entries:  

Projects must be

Predominately of wood

Entirely the work of the entrant

Completed within the last two years

Entered in a completed condition

No CNC/Laser or Computer Aided Projects.

Projects, which have previously won a first place or “Best of Show” in a previous AAFW show, may not be entered.

2.       Categories

It is the responsibility of each entrant to complete entry documents and enter his/her work in the appropriate category and skill level.  Show committee members will be available during drop off to help cate

     1. Arizona Centennial

            Wooden items that would be from the 1912 era. 

     2. Furniture                       

     3. Functional Accessories

     4. Art

     5. Toys and Models          

     6. Turnings

     7. Fretwork and Other Scroll Saw Work

      8. Open – Items which are outside the other categories.

      9. Display Only

Prior to judging, the show committee may move a project to a category they deem more appropriate.

Judges may also recommend  re-classification of a project.

The show committee shall have final authority relative to an entry’s category.

 3.       Skill Levels

       Student:  An entrant under the age of 18.

        Novice:
  An entrant who has practiced the requisite woodworking skill for less than 2
                       years.


        Advanced:
  Entrants who have practiced the requisite woodworking skill for 2 years or
                       more.


         Master:
  An Entrant who is very proficient in the Category..

         Professional:  An entrant who has a for profit business.

  Entrants may enter at a higher level.

 4.       Awards and Recognition

Ribbons will be awarded for First, Second and Third places in each Category and Skill Level.

Awards will also be made for Best of Show,  People’s Choice and Best Finishing Award by Apollo Sprayers.

Judges may limit awards if entries are not of sufficient merit.

 

5. Judging

 A judging panel will evaluate entries using the following considerations:

Originality and Design – Original or from plan, concept and interpretation, effective use of wood grain and type of wood

Skilled Execution – Technique, cuts and joints, project difficulty

Surface Finish – Quality of application, choice of finish.

Artistry – Balance. Proportion, focal points, rhythm, light and shadow, coordination of elements, overall effect of presentations
